The Kentucky standout brings elite rim protection and defensive versatility to San Antonio, bolstering a championship-ready core alongside Victor Wembanyama to keep the Spurs’ title window wide open.

BROOKLYN — Success compounds for the already-successful.

Fresh off their first NBA Finals appearance of the Victor Wembanyama era, the San Antonio Spurs have added another piece to their championship pursuit, selecting Kentucky product Jayden Quaintance with the No. 20 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.

Standing at 6-foot-10, Quaintance brings Defensive Player of the Year-type upside to San Antonio's young core. During his lone season at Kentucky, he showcased his ability to protect the rim and defend in space, making him an intriguing fit for the title-hopeful Spurs.

While Luke Kornet’s contributions as Wembanyama’s backup were significant in the regular season, it was tough to keep him on the floor at times during the Spurs’ run to the NBA Finals. Quaintance supplies San Antonio with the possibility of playing Wembanyama at the four spot, or sub ifs superstar out for the Kentucky product should the All-NBA First Teamer need a break.

Now, Quaintance joins the fold.
