This is the biggest news to come out of media day.

San Antonio Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson announced on media day that Victor Wembanyama has been fully cleared to participate in training camp.

Wembanyama played in only 46 games last season because of a blood clot in his shoulder.

The Spurs drafted Wembanyama with the first overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. Wembanyama appeared in 71 games during his rookie season. He averaged 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.2 steals and 3.6 blocks and won the Rookie of the Year Award.

Wembanyama made his first All-Star team last season. He averaged 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.1 steals and 3.8 blocks.

One of the top players in the NBA, Wembanyama has led the league in blocks per game and total blocks for two consecutive seasons. It wouldn't shock anyone if Wembanyama wins multiple Defensive Player of the Year Awards during his career.

Wembanyama has career averages of 22.5 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.2 steals and 3.7 blocks. The Spurs haven’t made the playoffs since 2019, but they have a bright future with Wembanyama, De'Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, Devin Vassell and Dylan Harper leading the way.

Fox and the Spurs agreed to a four-year, $229 million maximum contract extension in August. Wembanyama and Fox “have developed a close relationship,” according to NBA insider Shams Charania of ESPN.

San Antonio is widely expected to start Fox, Castle, Vassell, Harrison Barnes and Wembanyama this season.

NBA coaches, scouts and executives expect Wembanyama to be the best player in the NBA in 2030, according to ESPN. Wembanyama is only 21 years old.

Kawhi Leonard was the last player to play for the Spurs who was considered the best player in the NBA. San Antonio also had Tim Duncan and David Robinson hold those titles.
