The San Antonio Spurs jumped out to an early lead, but a constant barrage from the entire Thunder rotation was too much for the Spurs to handle down the stretch.

The San Antonio Spurs lost Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals, falling to the Oklahoma City Thunder 123-108. The Spurs got off to one of the best starts in NBA playoff history, rushing out to a 15-0 lead to kick off the game.

On top of that, they held Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scoreless in the first frame. However, the Spurs allowed OKC to crawl back into the game when Victor Wembanyama took a breather towards the end of the quarter.

While SGA managed to finish with 26 points after his slow start, the Thunder's charge was really led by Alex Caruso, Jaylin Williams, and Jared McCain. They posted 15, 18, and 24 points, respectively, with Williams and McCain both setting personal playoff career highs.

Spurs Fall to 3-Point Barrage

For the first five minutes of game time, it looked like the Spurs would run the Thunder out of the building. However, when OKC's roster full of shooters got hot, there really wasn't much the Spurs could do. San Antonio shot 31.7 percent from 3-point range, pathetic compared to the Thunder's 44.7 percent effort.

The Spurs were led by 26 points from Victor Wembanyama, and Devin Vassell had a solid night as well, contributing 20 of his own. In his first Conference Finals appearance, De'Aaron Fox added 15 points and six assists, although his ankle was clearly bothering him, especially after Lu Dort fell on him in the second half.

The Spurs' second unit continued to struggle. All regular season long, they boasted perhaps the best sixth, seventh, and eighth men, with Keldon Johnson, Dylan Harper, and Luke Kornet all being excellent in their roles.

However, the bench only managed to score 24 points, once again being overshadowed by Oklahoma City's second unit, which added 77 points, led by the trio of McCain, Caruso, and Williams.

Before the game, Julian Champagnie promised that the Spurs would respond to the Thunder's physicality. In the third quarter, Stephon Castle took a trio of hard fouls (video above!), and Devin Vassell was assessed a technical for his reaction to Castle going down hard. Unfortunately, that didn't seem to light a fire under the team.

The Spurs will look to even up the series on Sunday night, staying in San Antonio for a must-win Game 4.
