Lindy Waters III was a last-minute free-agent signing for the San Antonio Spurs. Was he able to cement his spot on the roster?

The Spurs' season is over, but the offseason could hold several key insights heading into next year for San Antonio.

SpursRoundtable is in the process of evaluating each Spur on the Western Conference championship roster to assess their contributions and find out how that can carry over into next season's title defense.

Lindy Waters III is the latest one up for scrutiny for the Spurs. The guard appeared in 40 games for San Antonio with no starting nods.

It was the most games played by Waters for one team since he hit the court 41 times with the Thunder in his second NBA season. However, he did see 52 games' worth of action last year between Golden State and Detroit, with nine starts thrown in with the Warriors.

Despite the smaller role with San Antonio, Waters tried to make the most of his minutes. He averaged 2.4 points and half an assist in around an average of seven minutes per outing.

The biggest problem Waters faced was a surplus of talented guards throughout the lineup for San Antonio.

Talented rookie and No. 2-overall pick Dylan Harper even struggled to see the court as much as Spurs fans and allegedly even himself wanted to because of this depth.

Outside of Harper, there are De'Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle, who are both All-Star caliber guards that will get the nod over Waters more often than not.

Waters has shown the ability to be flexible and fill in with the forwards, as well. Although there is not much more room in that department either, as Devin Vassell, Julian Champagnie, and NBA Sixth Man of the Year Keldon Johnson kept the Spurs thriving at the position.

With only five years under his belt, Waters still has time to develop and sharing a locker room with some of the best young talent in the league allows him a chance to grow together and share the other experience he does have.

Waters will not be a solid veteran presence like Bismack Biyombo or Jordan McLaughlin, the other two Spurs previously analyzed, but he offers another solid option at the guard position that can grow into a reliable bench producer.

For Waters, he has shown that he can serve as a starter or a bench player throughout his time in the league and continues to show upside as a player that may not have the most talent on the team but can provide flexibility for a contender, such as San Antonio.
