The San Antonio Spurs made franchise history for their best start to a season after beating the Miami Heat.

The San Antonio Spurs came into the 2025-26 NBA season with high hopes. Led by generational star Victor Wembanyama, there were many who thought the team would take a big step in the right direction.

However, there were not many who were expecting the kind of start the Spurs have actually had.

After defeating the Miami Heat on Thursday night by a final score of 107-101, San Antonio is now 5-0. It is the first time in franchise history that the Spurs have started off a season with five straight wins.

Wembanyama had another big game for San Antonio against the Heat, scoring 27 points to go along with 18 rebounds, six assists, and five blocked shots. He shot 10-for-23 from the floor.

Alongside of Wembanyama, the Spurs saw Stephon Castle score 21 points, dish out eight assists, grab six rebounds, and record four steals. Devin Vassell chipped in 17 points, while Dylan Harper came off the bench for 13 points and four assists.

On the other side of the court, Miami was led by star big man Bam Adebayo. He scored 31 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the losing effort.

Following the franchise record being set, Wembanyama spoke out with his thoughts on the impressive mark.

“I was thinking about the 5-0 record, the Spurs history. I was just proud of being a Spur in that moment," he said.

He also made it clear that San Antonio is putting in the work to have the start it has had.

"It's not random, we didn't get these 5 wins randomly, we worked for it," Wembanyama noted.

At this point, the hype is beginning to rise surrounding the Spurs. They have defeated the Heat, the Toronto Raptors, the Brooklyn Nets, the New Orleans Pelicans, and the Dallas Mavericks. More competition is coming, but San Antonio has done exactly what good teams do.

Perhaps this is the year that the Spurs finally get back to being a serious contender in the Western Conference.

For now, there are many reasons for optimism in San Antonio. Led by a franchise cornerstone in Wembanyama, the future is incredibly bright for the Spurs. But, it's quite possible that the present is now just as bright following a grueling rebuild.
