The Spurs left the friendly confines of the Frost Bank Center for the first time since wrapping up a six-game homestand. San Antonio headed west to Los Angeles and handed the Clippers a 119-115 loss on Monday.
It was the second time in the last six games that the Spurs got the best of L.A., but Monday's late-night win was much different than the first game back on March 6.
In the prior matchup, the Clippers led for nearly the entire affair, with their advantage peaking as high as 25 points before San Antonio roared back to steal a 116-112 win. On Monday, it was the Spurs who nearly surrendered a 20-point lead of their own and had to hang on for the narrow four-point victory.
Victor Wembanyama finished with 21 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks in another superstar effort. It's his seventh game with at least 20 points in the team's last eight outings.
However, it was Stephon Castle that stole the show for the Spurs, as the guard tallied a team-high 23 points on 9-19 shooting and racked up eight (8) assists. As a team, San Antonio had five of its scorers finish in double figures on the night.
With no Kawhi Leonard in the lineup, Darius Garland had a 25-point performance to lead L.A. Off the bench for the Clippers, Jordan Miller dropped an impressive 22 points and Benedict Mathurin threw in 16 more.
The win gave San Antonio its 50 win of the season, as they improved to 50-19 on the season. The Spurs hadn't recorded that feat since back in the 2016-17 season, when they finished second in the Western Conference before getting swept out of the conference finals by Golden State 4-0.
San Antonio will stay in the Golden State for one more game, as they head north to Sacramento for a 9 p.m. CT tip against the Kings on Tuesday.
