Stephon Castle has never lacked confidence, and after helping the San Antonio Spurs earn a crucial Game 3 victory in the NBA Finals, the star guard made it clear he believes this series is far from over.
The Spurs walked into Madison Square Garden facing a daunting challenge. Trailing 2-0 in the series against the New York Knicks, San Antonio needed a response to avoid falling into a nearly impossible hole.
And that is exactly what San Antonio was able to do.
The young Spurs delivered one of their most impressive performances of the season, earning an 115-111 victory and cutting New York's series lead to 2-1.
Castle played a major role in that win. The sophomore finished with 23 points while also contributing five rebounds. More importantly, he came through in some of the game's biggest moments, knocking down a key three-pointer and calmly sinking two free throws in the closing seconds to help secure the victory.
He also did something very encouraging when it came to his turnovers, finishing with just two turnovers and five assists. This is a very good sign after he struggled with those mistakes earlier in the playoffs.
Following the win, Castle made a bold prediction about the remainder of the series, expressing confidence that the Spurs will ultimately come out on top despite still trailing the Knicks. It's the type of mindset San Antonio needs as it looks to complete a comeback against one of the league's toughest teams.
"I expect us to win the next three," Castle told ESPN's Malika Andrews. "Those first two games really hurt, and I feel like it was an eye-opener for us. We don't want it to be that way, we want to punch first and be on the front foot. But that's the reality of it now. Just trying to take it game by game. We definitely expect to come into tomorrow and come out of here with a win."
While Castle's confidence grabbed headlines, his performance backed it up. Throughout the playoffs, the former UConn standout has consistently shown poise beyond his years. That maturity was on full display in one of the NBA's most intimidating environments as the Spurs silenced a packed Madison Square Garden crowd.
Of course, Castle wasn't alone. Victor Wembanyama led the way with a dominant 32-point performance, adding eight rebounds, six assists, and three blocks.
