Victor Wembanyama opened at +200 to win the 2026-27 NBA MVP on FanDuel Sportsbook, the shortest price on a board of 50 names. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is next at +350. Nikola Jokić and Luka Dončić are both listed at +600.
Giannis Antetokounmpo (+1000), Jayson Tatum (+1500), Anthony Edwards (+2000), and Cade Cunningham (+2500) round out the top eight. Jalen Brunson is the last player priced shorter than +10000.
Wembanyama finished third in the 2025-26 voting with 569 points. Gilgeous-Alexander won it with 939 points and 83 first-place votes. Jokić took 634 points and 10 first-place votes. Only eight players received a vote of any kind.
MVP, All-NBA, and Defensive Player of the Year voting all require 65 games. Wembanyama played through bruised ribs late in the regular season to protect his eligibility. Although the rule required at least 20 minutes on the court, he played 26 minutes.
Dončić and Cunningham played under 65 games and received league and players' association exceptions. Edwards and Devin Booker also did not meet the requirement.
Wembanyama has faced setbacks before; he played 46 games in 2024-25 before a deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder ended his season. That year, he led the league in blocks but was ineligible for all awards.
Last season, he averaged 25.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 3.1 assists in 29.2 minutes. He led the NBA in blocks with 3.1 per game for three seasons and was the first in league history to be a unanimous Defensive Player of the Year.
The San Antonio Spurs achieved 62 wins, their highest in ten years. Wembanyama was named MVP of the Western Conference finals after San Antonio's seven-game victory over Oklahoma City. New York then secured the NBA Championship in five games.
Last week, ESPN's Summer Forecast panel selected Wembanyama as the MVP, receiving 102 points in weighted voting. Jokić was the runner-up with 31 points, followed by Dončić with 28, Gilgeous-Alexander with 26, and Antetokounmpo with eight.
Tracy McGrady predicted in July that Wembanyama would win MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, and NBA Cup MVP in the same season. Shaquille O'Neal picked the Spurs over the Thunder in the Western Conference during an appearance at Fanatics Fest.
Wembanyama signed to a five-year, $252 million rookie extension without using the Rose rule escalators. The contract included an MVP as a qualifying criterion.
Wembanyama is currently leading France as the captain of its FIBA World Cup qualifier team. He also got into the gym with Hakeem Olajuwon again. In 2025, he completed four two-and-a-half-hour sessions focused on footwork, a jump hook, and his variation of the Dream Shake.
San Antonio will host Oklahoma City on Oct. 20 at Frost Bank Center, with the game starting at 8:30 p.m. CT.
