Nike has signed the Spurs' larger-than-life superstar to a new sneaker contract.
After just three years in the league and his latest push to the NBA Finals in his playoff debut, San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama has taken the fast track to being the face of the NBA.
That pedestal rises even more with news of his latest sneaker deal with the sports' biggest brand.
Wembanyama has agreed to a new long-term contract with Nike, a deal that also includes a signature shoe line coming in the near future, according to reporting from ESPN's Shams Charania.
The 7-foot-5 Frenchman has been with Nike since his No. 1 overall draft pick in 2023, and that partnership will usher in a new era of dominance on the court and worldwide acclaim off of it.
The deal comes weeks after Wembanyama reached an agreement with the Spurs on a max contract extension that keeps him in San Antonio for the next five seasons at a $252.3 million sum.
Wemby's deal with Nike was set to expire later this fall, and his contract with the Spurs comes in his first offseason eligible for an extension.
"We are proud to continue supporting Victor Wembanyama’s journey with Nike," the company said in a statement. "As one of the most unique and influential athletes in the world, Victor is a generational talent who continues to inspire the game's next generation. We are excited about all that we’ve built together and look forward to more wins ahead."
The first-ever unanimous Defensive Player of the Year, who is also a global ambassador off the court for luxury fashion brand Louis Vuitton, reached a new level of stardom this season as he carried the Spurs to a Western Conference title. San Antonio would ultimately lose in the Finals in five games to the New York Knicks.
Wembanyama, 22, averaged 25 points and 11.5 rebounds per game, both career-highs, in addition to leading the league in blocks for the third consecutive year.
'The Alien' Joins Elite Club of Signature Nike Athletes
LeBron "King" James. The "Black Mamba" Kobe Bryant. Kevin Durant, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and of course, Michael Jordan before his own brand became a sneaker destination of its own.
Each of these legends have become icons in the sneaker industry for their signature lines.
"The Alien" now joins the exclusive club.
Wembanyama and Nike already collaborated on a signature logo years prior, which resembles a basketball design encompassing an extraterrestrial face and the Nike logo.
However, Nike joined in the contract announcement by posting an intergalactic video featuring a reimagined twist on Wemby's alien symbol, which also resembles a "V".

Elsewhere, Wemby's freakish physique, off-court personality and intensity in his training and performance have made him one of the most marketable athletes across all sports in recent memory.
That continues in a major way with big news in the sneaker world.
