The San Antonio Spurs will enter the 2026-27 NBA season as title frontrunners, and Tobias Harris outlined that as a key reason for wanting to sign with the team.
The San Antonio Spurs adding Tobias Harris this offseason was not the flashiest move of the summer, but it should improve their title hopes. Without him, the Spurs won 62 games and made it all the way to the Finals. Last year, Harris was the second-leading scorer for the Detroit Pistons, and the Spurs added him without losing a single player.
At best, Harris is a solid, physical wing who can hold his own on both ends of the floor. For 16 seasons now, he's been one of the most consistent players in the NBA, usually as a third option on solid teams. In San Antonio, the role should be familiar.
The one thing missing from Harris' resume is an NBA title. Heading into his first season with the Spurs, his optimism has never been higher.

Tobias Harris Believes in Spurs' Title Hopes
In free agency this summer, the Spurs were linked primarily to two players: Harris and John Collins. Both are traditional power forwards who can space the floor a little bit and create for themselves, all without needing the ball in their hands. Harris headed to San Antonio, and Collins replaced Harris in Detroit.
While fielding calls from potential suitors, Harris had one thing in mind: winning a ring.
The Spurs, in his mind, offer him the best shot.
"Personally, as a player, goal-wise, I have one goal and accomplishment that I would love to accomplish through the rest of my career, and that's to win a championship," he said. "And that's why I decided to come here and be a part of this group, and I know the organization is striving for that. The team has gotten very close to that last year, being in the Finals and having a phenomenal year, and we fit in terms of what I bring to the table...So it's, in my opinion, a perfect match, and I'm looking forward to getting out and getting with the guys and playing and bringing it all together."
While guys like Harris, Devin Vassell, Stephon Castle, Dylan Harper, and De'Aaron Fox will be key in a championship effort, everyone on the roster knows that their hopes start and end with Victor Wembanyama.
After playing with guys like Cade Cunningham and Joel Embiid, Harris is no stranger to being a member of the supporting cast. It's a role he embraces.
"Being with Vic, I mean, he's the most talented player in the NBA," gushed the veteran. "His size, his skill set, and just his curiosity for learning. And I've only been around for the amount of time that I've been signed, but I think when people ask me about him, I always say, listen, I've been in this league for 16 years. Going into my 16th season, I have not seen a guy work as hard as he works."
