Victor Wembanyama Made Incredible NBA History in Spurs' Win vs Bulls cover image

Victor Wembanyama continues to show why people call him an alien.

Not only did the Spurs beat the Bulls on Monday to improve to 8-2 on the season, but superstar big man Victor Wembanyama also made incredible NBA history.

Wembanyama put up 38 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, one steal and five blocks against the Bulls. He's the first player in NBA history with that type of stat line in a game while hitting five 3s.

Wembanyama shot 11-of-19 from the field, 6-of-9 from beyond the arc and a perfect 10-of-10 from the free-throw line against the Bulls in 35 minutes. The All-Star is now averaging 25.7 points, 12.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.2 steals and 3.9 blocks per game on the season.

The Spurs' 8-2 is their best 10-game start since the 2015-16 season, when they finished a franchise-best 67-15.

"I'll say we're where we want to be," Wembanyama said after the game. "What I like is that we keep each other accountable, the coaching staff keeps us accountable so I know we're only going to keep getting better."

The Spurs haven't made the playoffs since 2019. As long as Wembanyama stays healthy, San Antonio will make the playoffs this season.

"I feel like experience, reps played a big role in that confidence because at the end of the day, I only have like 130 or so games in my career and then there's lots of things that I wish would go faster, but I just need some reps," Wembanyama said. "It's never a straight curve, but it's definitely trending up."

Wembanyama scored 18 of his 38 points in the fourth quarter against the Bulls. He hit back-to-back 3-pointers in the final seconds to lead the Spurs to a come-from-behind victory.

San Antonio outscored Chicago 32-19 in the final quarter.

"He walked that game down possession by possession there," Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson said. "He was just very fundamentally sound, very focused and he kind of just dominated a lot of possessions."

The Spurs are back in action on Wednesday when they host the Warriors. San Antonio actually plays Golden State on Wednesday and Friday.
