28 points, 16 rebounds, five blocks, and two steals. That's happened 79 times in NBA history, but only once in under 30 minutes played. Once again, Victor Wembanayama is the inaugural member of an exclusive club!
The San Antonio Spurs trailed the Houston Rockets by 15 points, but rallied back in a dominant fourth quarter to win 111-99. The Spurs now own a 2-1 season series lead over the Rockets, remain in second place in the Western Conference, and Wembanyama continues to cement himself as the best player on the best team in the Lone Star State.
Make no mistake, Wembanyama doesn't like the Rockets, and the Rockets don't like him, but the Silver and Black got the last laugh on Wednesday night.
All season long, the Spurs have struggled against physical teams. Between Amen Thompson, Alperen Sengun, Dorian Finney-Smith, Jabari Smith Jr., and the currently-injured Steven Adams, the Rockets are one of the most physical teams in the league.
In the most recent win, it didn't bother the Spurs, although Houston has gotten under their skin before. The Spurs were out looking for revenge, and after the game, Wemby seemed to relish embarrassing them.
"I think it's a compliment that people don't like playing against them," Wembanyama said. "It's just the brand of basketball they play, so yeah, I think teams in general don't like playing against them, and we're not an exception."
During the fourth-quarter comeback, Wembanyama saved his best play for last, swatting three shots and nabbing nine rebounds to close out the game.
Thanks to stellar defense from both Wembanyama and Stephon Castle, Kevin Durant was held to a plus/minus of -9, scoring only four points on a single made shot in the final quarter.
Wembanyama was the star of the show, although the Spurs' young guards stepped up. Castle dominated defensively and offered 16 efficient points, and rookie Dylan Harper added 16 points of his own off the bench.
The Spurs will continue their road trip, taking on the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday before returning home to the Frost Bank Center for a two-game homestand, including their final matchup of the regular season against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
