Former teammate Stephen Jackson proposes a monumental shift, envisioning an elite veteran backcourt pairing with Victor Wembanyama to reignite championship aspirations in San Antonio.
It can be argued that the Golden State Warriors haven't done enough to extend the championship-level window for all-time superstar Stephen Curry ... though they have tried.
But their failed attempts to lure the likes of Giannis Antetokounmpo, LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard and Anthony Davis to the Bay are triggering rumors of a Curry move - maybe to the San Antonio Spurs.
Says who?
Says a notable former Warriors teammate of Curry, Stephen Jackson.
All the Smoke's Jackson has crafted an eyebrow-raising trade idea that would bring four-time champion Curry to The Alamo City, where he surely would see a jump-up in his chance to win another title.
"San Antonio for me," Jackson said this week when speaking on a possible Curry change of scenery.
And what would this deal look like?
Said Jackson: "You got De'Aaron Fox, they can package one of those, and I ain't even talking about (Dylan) Harper, or (Stephon) Castle, they got two big draft picks this year, so they did well in the draft.
"So they got the pieces to move for a Steph with De'Aaron Fox; I think that would be great."
Jackson's trade idea would seem like a huge winner for the Spurs, who are hoping for a return trip to the NBA Finals after last season's loss to the New York Knicks.
Curry in the backcourt teamming with 7-4 big man Victor Wembanyama?
That's arguably the best scoring guard of all-time joining forces with arguably the best player in the NBA today.
Any obstacles here?
Well, the Warriots might not like the idea of Fox as the payoff here, even though he averaged 19.7 points and 6.8 assists with the Spurs last season.
In San Antonio, there is some view that Fox - who did not perform well in the Finals - is an expendable piece.
In NoCal, would there be any view that would see Fox as a building block to a rebuild?
Fox for Curry would be a Western Conference trade blockbuster, but to us, the only way anything like this happens would have to be the result of Curry asking out of the Bay.
That hasn't happened yet. But ... stay tuned.
