The French phenom leads an ascendant Spurs presence on BR's list, showcasing a young core and immediate contender status.

The San Antonio Spurs have a growing contingent of players earning recognition among the NBA’s best, and at the center of it all — quite literally — is Victor Wembanyama.

In Bleacher Report’s midseason re-rank of the league’s 99 best players, Wembanyama sits comfortably among the elite early in the 2025-26 campaign, underscoring both his individual dominance and the Spurs’ rapid ascent back toward relevance.

Wembanyama checks in as a top-tier talent near the very top of the rankings at No. 4. The 7-foot-4 phenom has continued to evolve his game, blending shot-blocking, scoring, playmaking and perimeter shooting at an elite level. His sheer versatility and presence have reshaped the Spurs’ identity, shifting them from a rebuilding team to a legitimate contender in the Western Conference in a very short time.

What makes Wemby’s climb so impressive isn’t just the statistics — though he’s piling up eye-catching numbers — but the way he influences the game without needing a single role defined for him. San Antonio’s offense and defense both run through him, and his ability to stretch the floor while anchoring the paint on the other end continues to draw widespread respect from analysts around the league.

Beyond him, the Spurs landed a couple of other notable appearances on the Bleacher Report list. Devin Vassell, a reliable two-way wing, secured a spot in the earlier portion of the rankings at No. 96, reflecting his importance as a perimeter shooter and secondary creator for San Antonio.

In addition, De’Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle also made the list at No. 33 and No. 60, respectively. Fox’s dynamic scoring and elite pace-pushing ability have injected energy into the Spurs’ offense, while Castle is yet another young player who is going to be at the center of what this team does for years to come.

Perhaps most exciting for Spurs fans is not just that multiple players cracked the “Top 99,” but that the core of this team is still young and ascending. Wembanyama’s presence has helped elevate his teammates — and the organization — in national perception.

As the season unfolds, keep a close eye on how these Spurs stack up. If Wembanyama continues on this trajectory — and his supporting cast keeps rising — San Antonio could be in store for something special.
