Led by All-Star Victor Wembanyama, in a 125-92 win against the Dallas Mavericks, the San Antonio Spurs just may be one of the best teams in the NBA.

Sometimes all you can do is laugh in amazement.

ESPN’s Basketball Analyst Jay Bilas, who was on the call for the San Antonio Spurs 125-92 victory over the Dallas Mavericks perfectly described Spurs center Victor Wembanyama.

“It’s like playing against your dad in the driveway when you’re eight years old. What do you do?”

Immediately after, Wembanyama drains a stepback 3-pointer after getting fouled by Mavericks’ center Dereck Lively.

To answer Bilas’ question, there’s not much you can do.

“The Alien,” as they call him, is a different breed. We’ve seen basketball players with outrageous height, but never with the skillset of Wembanyama.

He’s a 7-foot-5 center, with the agility and ball handling of a 6-foot-2 point guard, who can hurt you in both transition and on the perimeter.

But now, Wembanyama’s bag is overflowing, after spending the summer with Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon, one of the game’s greatest post players with the footwork of an Irish Jig dancer.

To cap off the night, Wembanyama left Dallas with a casual 40 points, 15 rebounds, three blocks and a steal.

But it wasn’t just Wembanyama who stole the show.

Point guard and reigning Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle had himself an incredible game that unfortunately will go overlooked.

Castle posted 22 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals. It was an all around beautiful game from the former fourth overall pick.

He had active hands on defense, and one particular play resulted in a steal and it led him to a gritty transition play, where he laid in a nifty and-one at the rim.

Even more lost in the shuffle was the second overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft Dylan Harper.

For his first ever game in the NBA, Harper did anything and everything you’d want in a rookie – aside from the four turnovers and two missed free throws.

But offensively, he played a fundamentally sound game, showing a capable jumpshot and an appetite to grab as many rebounds as possible, posting 15 points and four rebounds on 7-14 shooting.

What this win meant for the Spurs though was that it’s become a sign of things to come for the NBA. San Antonio already planted itself as NBA royalty for its dynastic period from the mid-90s to early-2010s, but now the talent that has surrounded Wembanyama may be enough to take this team over the edge once again.

Could it be too early to say that this team has the makings of a top-four seed in the playoffs? Possibly.

But this is a team that made a five-time All Defensive player in Anthony Davis look silly, and that’s a feat in itself.
