The Suns went on the road to the "Motor City" to face the Detroit Piston in what everyone knew would be a close game. Both teams with young overall talent and a Phoenix Suns team without Jalen Green and their leader Devin Booker.
Cade Cunningham for the Pistons was having an off night as he is still dealing with a hand injury, had five points and shot 2-13 from the field and had five turnovers in 38 minutes of play.
Grayson Allen was the leading scorer for the Suns with 33 points, going 11-25 from the field and 100-percent from the free throw line.
Royce O'Neale ended up playing for the Suns after their game-time decision. O'Neale had two turnovers in 29 minutes of play with only seven points on the night.
Phoenix started off great in in the first half, controlling the tempo and moving the ball around, sticking to coach Ott's system.
Towards the end of the second quarter Phoenix had an 11-point lead, but the Pistons would close that gap and go into the half trailing the Suns 63-56.
Coming out of the break Detroit was ready to play, stepping up the physical defense and converting on second chance opportunities.
The Pistons outscored the Suns in the third quarter 33-27 and had closed the gap even more ending the quarter trailing only by one point.
The fourth quarter was a close back and forth but once the Pistons took the lead they never let go. Even up by only three points, the Suns would cut it to one, but Detroit would go right back down the court and respond.
The story for Phoenix has been all year that when these close games come down to a battle in the final minute they cannot overcome and take back the game.
Phoenix had one last chance in the final seconds to tie the game, taking the last shot from beyond the arc was Grayson Allen and he could not get it to fall.
The Detroit Pistons were able to take the first meeting between the two teams this season with a 108-105 very physical defensive game.
Detroit showed the much-needed rest came in handy to overcome a deficit and defeat a hot Suns team. The Pistons are now 29-10 and are sitting number at first place in the Eastern Conference.
As for the Phoenix Suns who are still waiting for Jalen Green to be cleared off the injury report and hopeful that the Devin Booker ankle injury is not that serious, this was a positive showing.
To have two leaders of the offense out for the game against the best in the East and lead most the game is a good sign for things to come.
Phoenix is now two games behind the Houston Rockets who are in sixth place in the Western Conference. The Suns are only in seventh place with the Golden State Warriors on their heels at two and a half games back.
This was only the second game of a six-game Eastern Conference road trip for the Suns. Heading to play a Knicks team next that is looking for payback after a tough loss in the desert.
