To start the game the Suns and Lakers went blow for blow, Devin Booker was off to a hot start as well. Booker had 11 points, hitting a three pointer before leaving the game with a groin injury. We did not see Devin Booker return in this game, out in the first quarter.
Going into the second quarter the game was tied 31-31. One would think with their star player out of the game the team would collapse, the Suns had other plans. Phoenix set the tone and Dillon Brooks stepped up having 33 points in this game.
The Suns broke away in the second quarter, going on a 31-11 run that the Lakers were never able to come back from.
Phoenix did not let up coming out of the half, keeping their foot on the gas. The Lakers had numerous mistakes, no matter how many times Luka tried to get something going.
By the fourth quarter it was clear that Phoenix was in complete control and the Lakers started to bench the Starters.
The Suns had 16 steals in this game; the defense was swarming the Lakers.
L.A only came up with one steal all game, their lowest of the season.
The storyline seems to always be the same for the Phoenix Suns, bench players stepping up when needed and coming into the game with energy/intensity.
For Phoenix to go on the road, losing Booker early and being bad on the road; this win is a gigantic confidence booster for the team.
Phoenix will have time to evaluate Booker's injury this week; next game is not until Friday in Houston.
