Phoenix must empower Devin Booker through off-ball movement while leveraging elite high-post passing from its dynamic center duo to silence critics and ignite a high-octane offense.

The 82-game regular season is rapidly approaching for the 2026-27 Phoenix Suns.

One of the major questions arising with this particular squad is the supposed lack of offensive creation.

While there are a myriad of capable playmakers on the roster, there doesn't seem to be a dominant one, especially according to the greater NBA think tank.

Devin Booker is seen as a high-level playmaker in his own right, but he isn't held to the regard that peers such as Cade Cunningham are.

How exactly do the Suns take steps to manage these purported limitations?

Below is a three-step plan to exceed expectations in this department.

Don't Overcorrect What Already Works

There's a great deal of wisdom that comes with this adage. Phoenix has many functional and above-average playmakers - the coaching staff doesn't need to overcomplicate things.

Utilizing the elite IQ of Collin Gillespie, Jalen Green's game-breaking burst, and Oso Ighodaro's precision timing should all be pillars as to how the offense operates from a creation perspective this season.

Additions such as Miles Bridges add peril in complicating the setup, but it shouldn't in practice. If anything, the versatility that Bridges can provide in a scaled role should enhance strengths this group already had.

Place Booker in More Natural Playmaking Situations

There's little doubt that Booker isn't quite appreciated the way he should be as a playmaker.

He gets to the free throw line at a high rate, generates gobs of quality three-point looks for teammates, and is a maestro when it comes to making hockey assists.

However, the Suns ask too much of him at times. This seems to be why Jalen Green is receiving more on-ball opportunities. Yes, Booker is a great passer and owns one of the higher basketball IQ's in the entire league.

Even through this, the Suns have made life more difficult for him as a playmaker in many ways - especially during the Kevin Durant era.

There's a much higher chance that Phoenix curates an offense that is obviously above average in 2026-27 if the coaching staff allows for more room to maximize his off-ball prowess once again.

Keep Center Duo in Mind

Ighodaro and Khaman Maluach have the potential to be valuable offensive hubs on the high post this season. The former in particular is proven to be exceptional in this regard, while the latter is flashing the same potential in preseason play.

The room for a pair of bigs to be difference-makers in this area levies a ton of burden from the guards/wings, while also creating entirely new possibilities as to how Jordan Ott can approach curating new sets and actions.

The reshaped Suns offense will be in action on Wednesday night when they take on the Portland Trail Blazers on the road.
