From Devin Booker’s mid-range mastery to Dillon Brooks’ efficient breakout, discover how an aggressive starting five fueled an early lead before a narrow loss to Detroit.

The Phoenix Suns are now 0-1 in the five-game preseason slate following a narrow Monday night loss to the Detroit Pistons.

The starting lineup is a large reason why Phoenix was able to jump out to a lead and have a chance to open preseason play with a victory.

Read a quick assessment on how each member of the starting five performed below.

Jalen Green

Green took some time to get comfortable in this game. Once that comfortability came into fold, the sixth-year guard was electric.

Featured stories

Green put up 11 points on 3-6 shooting, while also looking the part as an attacker. Green's six free-throw attempts are a display of what he can be when consistently pressuring the rim.

Overall, this was an encouraging start to the new year for a healthy Green.

Devin Booker

Different number, same player.

Booker is entering year 12 fully committed to the Suns organization, even appearing to have more focus in this campaign.

The Suns' all-time leading scorer was extremely comfortable in finding his spots inside the arc, creating offense for others, and even knocked down a pull-up three-point look in the second quarter for good measure.

This was an exceptionally strong start to the new year. If this is the norm during the regular season, it'll be simple to see the Suns exceeding 45 wins.

Dillon Brooks

The second-year Sun had arguably the most impressive showing of any player on the roster Monday.

Brooks underwent interesting tactics to prepare for another season, and it's paying off for the time being.

Scoring wasn't an issue for the wing, as he finished with 11 points on an efficient 4-7 night. He also co-owned the highest +/- of the night for the Suns with Booker at plus-18.

Miles Bridges

Bridges was exceptional as a scorer to begin the game, to the point of contributing to Phoenix's first seven points of the night.

While the efficient scoring wore off over time, there is still reason to believe that the on-court fit will work. The Michigan State product is still showcasing special athleticism, while grabbing five rebounds and dishing out four assists in the process.

Perhaps the most impressive aspect of his debut was his activity on the defensive side of the ball. The 28-year-old was active, willing, and all over the place when the Suns were defending.

Oso Ighodaro

Ighodaro more or less did what Phoenix typically asks of him - finish a relatively low volume of shots at the rim, play effective defense, and serve as a valuable playmaking hub on the high post.

While it was challenging to fully asses how much the Marquette product has truly improved, there are signs to believe that Phoenix's de-facto starting center is on the right track to break-out in a meaningful manner this season.
