The Phoenix Suns are bringing in former Golden State Warriors guard Pat Spencer.
The Phoenix Suns are at it again.
The Suns made yet another roster move on Thursday afternoon - this time by virtue of handing a two-way contract that secured an intriguing veteran in former Golden State Warriors G Pat Spencer, who has gradually improved over the last several seasons at the professional level.
ESPN's Shams Charania was the first to break the news.
"Free agent guard Pat Spencer has agreed to a two-way NBA contract with the Phoenix Suns, sources tell ESPN. Spencer's role grew across three seasons in Golden State, where he averaged 7.2 points and 18.6 minutes last season."
Spencer, soon to be 30, has spent the last four seasons with the Golden State Warriors organization - enjoying his best season in 2025-26. The Maryland native played in 66 games a season ago, shooting nearly 36% from three-point range. Spencer has been lauded as a team-first player that happens to do a bit of everything on the court, albeit in a relatively small sample size at the NBA level.
The career route that Spencer took is worth noting, as he began his collegiate journey playing lacrosse before playing basketball at Northwestern as a senior. Now, Spencer joins the Suns as a low-risk, high-reward signing - the Suns will be able to assign him to the Valley Suns while also being able to employ him at the NBA level for up to 50 games.
This is convenient for the Suns, as the roster will stand at 15 players once the franchise officially signs Luke Kennard and completes the trade for Miles Bridges.
What's Next for Suns?
The Suns might be done for now, as they are going to be at 15 after the moratorium lifts as mentioned above - never say never after GM Brian Gregory pulled off a shock acquisition for Bridges on Sunday.
It seems as if the core of Phoenix's rotation (alongside Spencer) is in place, but Jamaree Bouyea and Haywood Highsmith are potentially on the chopping block despite both being well-liked by the organization.
Don't expect Spencer to see the court too much regardless of what comes of the Suns' roster in the coming months, as Jalen Green returns for a second season, Collin Gillespie re-signed with the Suns recently, and Devin Booker is back for year 12 as the franchise player.
Stay tuned for any potential Suns moves as free agency rages on and the league awaits for a decision to be made by LeBron James.
