The Phoenix Suns are re-signing breakout guard Collin Gillespie to a four-year, $48 million contract.

The Phoenix Suns are already set to retain one of their key free agents.

Per ESPN's Shams Charania, the Suns are signing guard Collin Gillespie to a four-year, $48 million contract.

"Free agent guard Collin Gillespie intends to sign a four-year, $48 million deal to return to the Phoenix Suns, sources tell ESPN," Charania posted to X. "Gillespie spent three straight seasons on two-way contracts after going undrafted out of Villanova in 2022 and now earns a lucrative long-term deal."

Fans' initial reaction to the trade was near unanimous: this contract is well deserved.

Gillespie truly is more than deserving of this contract after his breakout 2025-2026 campaign. He, in just his third NBA season, averaged 12.7 points, 4.6 assists, and 4.1 rebounds on 41.8% shooting and 40.1% shooting from three-point range in 80 appearances.

It's entirely possible the Suns hand over the starting point guard job to Gillespie for the upcoming season. Given how redundant Devin Booker and Jalen Green are in the backcourt, it could benefit Phoenix's rotation to have a true playmaker in the starting lineup.

By far Gillespie's best trait is his shooting from three-point range. He has never shot below 39.0% from the arc in his three years in the league. Despite being just 6 foot 1 and 195 pounds, Gillespie is also quite a scrappy defender. He averaged 1.2 steals in the 2026 season.

If the Suns do decide to trade Green for a star point guard, Gillespie will continue to work as one of the NBA's elite sixth men. Having a sparkplug to lead the offense off the bench is crucial to any championship contender. The two teams in this year's NBA Finals are perfect examples, as the San Antonio Spurs are home to Dylan Harper and the New York Knicks have Deuce McBride.

With Gillespie now under contract long-term, the Suns' attention will turn to next week's 2026 NBA Draft along with free agents Mark Williams, Jordan Goodwin, and others.
