Retired Phoenix Suns guard Eddie Johnson reacted to the organization's signing of Luke Kennard.

The Phoenix Suns made a strong move on Tuesday evening by signing former Los Angeles Lakers sharpshooter Luke Kennard. He and the Suns agreed to a two-year, $13 million contract with a player option for the second season.

The acquisition caught the attention of retired Suns guard and former Sixth Man of the Year Eddie Johnson, who reacted to the move on X.

Johnson wrote, "Sniper from Deeep! @Suns." This was shared in response to a post showing Kennard's three-point shooting percentage throughout his career.

Most agree this was a phenomenal signing by general manager Brian Gregory and company, especially after parting ways with two strong shooters in Grayson Allen and Royce O'Neale. Allen and O'Neale were dealt to the Charlotte Hornets in the trade that brought star forward Miles Bridges to the Valley.

Phoenix adds Kennard, who is statistically one of the greatest shooters from the arc in NBA history, to its second unit.

He split the 2025-2026 campaign between the Atlanta Hawks and Lakers, averaging 8.4 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 2.2 assists on 53.3% shooting and 47.8% shooting from three-point range in 78 games.

It's worth noting Kennard is not a strong playmaker, nor does he defend at a high level. He is simply a sharpshooter, which is the reason the Suns brought him in to backup Devin Booker and Jalen Green.

The addition of Kennard means the guard room will look as follows:

PG: Devin Booker, Collin Gillespie

SG: Jalen Green, Luke Kennard

Jordan Goodwin is likely to slide to the backup '3' despite being just 6-foot-3.

While the Suns have already retained all of their key free agents, traded for Bridges, and signed Kennard, it's hard to expect them to compete with the likes of the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder in the loaded Western Conference.

However, don't be surprised if Phoenix makes a strong push for a guaranteed playoff spot next season.
