Retired Phoenix Suns guard Eddie Johnson made his feelings clear on Memphis Grizzlies' Ja Morant.
The trade situation surrounding Memphis Grizzlies two-time All-Star Ja Morant is strange, to say the least.
Despite being a promising and athletic 26-year-old guard, teams around the league want draft capital attached to him in order to make a trade, per NBA analyst Kendrick Perkins. This is likely because of the off-court issues Morant has dealt with throughout his career along with his lack of availability.
Phoenix Suns retired Sixth Man of the Year Eddie Johnson spoke out on the Morant situation.
He responded to Perkins' report on social media, writing, "The thought that this could be happening should set off an alarm like no other in this young man’s head. Conduct defeats Talent! Go ask dozens of players whose careers were cut short. Sad!"
Johnson is spot-on with his remark, as it's clear no team is willing to pay a premium to take a risk on Morant's behavior. One team that should consider negotiating a deal for Morant is Johnson's former team, the Suns.
Phoenix is home to a redundant backcourt of Devin Booker and Jalen Green. Both are primarily shooting guards who thrive with the ball in their hands. Swapping Green for Morant and draft picks would be a smart move by the Suns' front office.
Not only would the Grizzlies guard add another dimension to their offense, but he would be the true playmaker the Suns should be looking to pair alongside Booker. In the 2025-2026 season, he averaged 19.5 points and 8.1 assists on 41.0% shooting but appeared in just 20 games.
Still, the talent is worth taking a chance on.
It's entirely possible all Morant needs to get his already impressive career back on track is a fresh start.
