After a career-best season, Dillon Brooks and the Phoenix Suns are reportedly discussing a lucrative extension.

The "big three" era is now well in the rearview mirror for the Phoenix Suns - with the dismantling of a highly controversial era in the Valley ultimately being for the best.

One of the centerpieces of the trade that sent Kevin Durant away from the Suns' franchise played an absolutely instrumental role in shifting the culture in Phoenix, ultimately making it more palpable for fans to move beyond a rough two-year period.

Now, Dillon Brooks is set to move into his second season in Phoenix - nearly a decade after being a trade target of interest for the Suns. The nine-year NBA veteran has been fully embraced in just over one year of being a fixture in the community - as he put together a career-best campaign in 2025-26.

It appears as if the average of over 20 points per game will payoff in a profound way for Brooks in the near future - at least according to ESPN's Shams Charania.

The NBA insider revealed in a talk with media outlet PHNX on Friday that Brooks and the Suns' front office have engaged in contract extension dialogue, noting that the forward is seen as a vital piece of the organization moving forward.

Brian Gregory, Mat Ishbia, and the remainder of the key decision makers for Phoenix would undoubtedly love to get a deal done, while Brooks has been vocal about his desire to stay in Phoenix long-term.

This simple notion points to the conversations being relatively uncomplicated, although there are other moving parts that leave the door open to delaying an agreement - including the agreed-upon Miles Bridges trade being held up at the moment.

While the exact timing of a deal is unknown, Suns fans should feel confident that Brooks will be signed to a long-term extension by the time training camp commences in late September. Expect the terms of the deal to end up being relatively favorable to the Suns as well - think of a contract in the four-year, $100 million range.

This would allow Brooks to cash out in a manner that he has yet to in his career, while the Suns would be afforded flexibility that they have deeply desired since parting with a deep asset pool to go all-in on title contention.

At the end of the day, Brooks seems to be locked in as a fixture with the Suns for the long haul - regardless of the timing of terms of a contract extension.
