The Phoenix Suns could still trade for Memphis Grizzlies' Ja Morant despite what reports have suggested.

The Phoenix Suns have been presented with a golden opportunity.

Now, all they have to do is take it. What is this can't-miss route, you ask? Let's break it down.

Per NBA insider Michael Scotto, the Sacramento Kings are unlikely to pursue Memphis Grizzlies All-Star guard Ja Morant. The Minnesota Timberwolves are seemingly out on Morant, according to insider Jon Krawczynski. On top of these two teams ending their pursuit of the 26-year-old, the New Orleans Pelicans are also no longer interested in Morant, via The Stein Line (per Legion Hoops).

The bottom line is these three organizations showing unwillingness to trade for Morant leaves the Suns as one of the only suitors for him across the NBA. So, Phoenix can likely land the two-time All-Star at a steal of a price. A package centered around Grayson Allen, Royce O'Neale, and second-round draft capital may be enough to get the job done.

Reports have suggested the Suns are also not interested in Morant, but at the right price, why shouldn't Phoenix take a chance on him?

Landing an age 26, athletically gifted point guard to pair next to franchise cornerstone Devin Booker feels like a recipe for success. Booker is at his best when a true playmaker is alongside him, which was proven in 2021 when Chris Paul and he led the Suns to the NBA Finals.

Morant averaged 8.1 assists in the 2025-2026 season along with 19.5 points on 41.0% shooting.

So, what are the downsides of this potential move for Phoenix?

First is Morant's availability issue, as he appeared in just 20 games this past season and has not played in more than 60 since 2023. The second is his off-court issues throughout his career in the league. There's a chance Morant turns into more of a distraction than a help for the Suns. Finally, his contract is not ideal if the duo of him and Booker does not pan out, as he is in the midst of a five-year, $197 million deal.

A team led by Booker and Morant won't take down the likes of the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs but would bring the Suns a step closer to contention in the Western Conference.
