Follow general observations, assessments, and early takes on each member of Phoenix’s starting five.
Two regular season games are in the books for the 2026-27 rendition of the Phoenix Suns.
Phoenix has gone through peaks and valleys already, with a 1-1 record to show for it. A major reason behind the uneven start is choppy early results from a new starting lineup.
Follow below for our grades on each member of the starting unit through two games.
Jalen Green: C-
Green unfortunately appears to be much of the same player that he was over the first five seasons of his career.
While moments of brilliance continue to illuminate the highlight reels (including an impressive pass to Khaman Maluach that led to Phoenix taking a lead on Saturday), there's still far too much inconsistency.
Green's expected jump as a playmaker isn't working out in the manner as intended, and his scoring variation from night-to-night is still present.
The sad reality is that many of the least effective Phoenix lineups feature Green. Collin Gillespie has the potential to work his way into the starting lineup over the next month or two.
Devin Booker: A
The Suns' franchise icon has undoubtedly been the best player on the team two games in.
While the first half of the loss to the Portland Trail Blazers wasn't pretty, he has bounced back since.
A vintage 43-point showing against the Golden State Warriors should lend hope to fans that the "old" Booker is back and ready to lead the Suns to a better record this season.
Dillon Brooks: B-
Brooks has been fine through two games, but questions are arising about possible defensive regression here.
Brooks didn't have a strong offensive outing on Wednesday, rebounding with an efficient performance on Saturday that included five assists.
Another area to monitor here is three-point volume, as the second-year Sun has only taken five threes thus far.
Miles Bridges: C
Bridges has been the definition of "okay" thus far.
It's easy to see why Phoenix management saw value in his offensive skillset despite shooting just 20% from three-point range.
The defensives concerns are still present as well, particularly on Wednesday when the wing ceded multiple three-point makes off late rotations and mental lapses.
Khaman Maluach: C+
Maluach has seemingly been overmatched at times thus far in 2026-27.
However, the growth he is displaying on-the-fly is very impressive. This includes ever-improving rim protection, flashing his developing three-point shot, and becoming Phoenix's leading rebounder early on in the campaign.
There's a great deal of distance that Maluach must make to become a star-level player, but he's on the right track.
