A seismic blockbuster reshapes the lottery board, forcing Sam Presti to navigate Milwaukee’s new draft capital as rival contenders threaten to leapfrog Oklahoma City for elite prospects.

The biggest domino of the offseason finally toppled one day before the 2026 NBA Draft, as ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Milwaukee is trading Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis to Miami in exchange for Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round picks, one first-round swap and a future second-round pick. It’s a good haul for the Bucks given their lack of leverage, especially since they acquired the 13th overall pick in a loaded 2026 Draft.

Oklahoma City and the rest of the West should be celebrating the transaction because the conference is already brutal enough without an up-and-coming team acquiring the former Finals MVP. However, there are still ramifications for the Thunder despite the fact that Antetokounmpo remains in the East.

The primary consequence is Milwaukee’s potential strategy change regarding the 10th overall pick. Will acquiring the 13th overall pick change how it approaches the draft? For example, Nate Ament is considered a borderline top-ten selection because of his wing skill set and self-created scoring chops at 6-foot-10. But the Tennessee product is also incredibly raw and has a high bust potential. Do the Bucks take a huge swing on Ament at 10th overall knowing that they are rebuilding for the foreseeable future and can pair him with a safer prospect at 13th overall? It’s a logical decision, which means the Thunder are more likely to see Aday Mara, Yaxel Lendeborg or Morez Johnson Jr. available at 12th overall.

Meanwhile, the Bucks may be more willing to trade back from 10th and 13th overall because they are now a rebuilding team who likely desires extra draft capital. Will a contender move up the board to 10th overall to jump the Thunder’s 12th overall pick and poach a prospect like Mara, Lendeborg, Johnson Jr. or Brayden Burries? Another possibility is a contender trading up to 13th overall to leap the Thunder’s 17th overall pick and stealing a prospect like Cameron Carr or Dailyn Swain. On the flip side, Sam Presti could package draft capital to move up to 10th or 13th overall if his guy is in danger of being selected.

Overall, the Giannis Antetokounmpo blockbuster alters the landscape of the 2026 NBA Draft significantly. Whether the ramifications wind up helping or hurting the Thunder is unknown, but look for the draft to be marked by chaos and trades (especially in the 5th through 15th overall picks range).
