Oklahoma City has only lost once since the All-Star break.
The Oklahoma City Thunder went into Brooklyn on Wednesday night with an opportunity to win its 10th straight game, and by the end of the first quarter, it was abundantly apparent that was going to happen.
The Thunder defense absolutely clamped down and held the Nets to just 24 points in the first half, their lowest point total in a half in close to a decade. And that was really the story of the game. It was over at that point, as the Thunder led 60-24 at the half.
That allowed Oklahoma City to get plenty of rest for its key players, especially given that this came on the second night of a back-to-back. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander once again scored 20 points, keeping his streak alive, while Jared McCain led all scorers with 26 points. Aaron Wiggins got things going in the second half, which should be great for his rhythm as he looks to get out of a slump.
Sometimes there’s smaller victories within a win, and the Thunder hopes that Wiggins getting back on track can be one from tonight.
Oklahoma City went on to win by close to 30 points, but it was a situation in which there could have been an even bigger blowout had more of the key players stayed in beyond the midway point of the third quarter. But nonetheless, Oklahoma City moves to 55-15 and maintains the best record in the NBA.
From here, the Thunder will continue its Eastern Conference road trip against the Washington Wizards on Saturday.
