Celtics halted the Thunder's surge, exposing offensive struggles and clutch execution gaps in a playoff preview.

The Oklahoma City Thunder had its 12-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday night, falling to the Boston Celtics 118-109 on the road. After a strong start that saw OKC take a 31-20 lead through the first quarter, the Thunder dropped every quarter the rest of the way as Boston steadily took control.

This was a true heavyweight matchup between two championship-level teams that could very well meet in the NBA Finals. The game had a playoff feel throughout, with every possession carrying weight, but Boston ultimately made more winning plays in front of its home crowd.

Despite an ultra-efficient night from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who scored 33 points while shooting 83.3% from the field, Oklahoma City couldn’t find enough offense elsewhere. The rest of the Thunder shot just over 41% as a team, with several clean, open looks failing to fall. That allowed Boston to seize momentum and capitalize.

The difference came from the supporting casts. Boston’s complementary pieces clearly outplayed Oklahoma City’s. Lu Dort finished with 14 points and Chet Holmgren added 10, but no other Thunder player reached double figures. While 11 players scored, OKC simply didn’t get enough production from its top-end rotation outside of SGA.

Rebounding became a major issue in the second half, further tilting the game in Boston’s favor. The Celtics also moved the ball more effectively, knocked down six more three-pointers, and converted four more free throws. Across the board, they were the better team on the night.

With the standings tightening, this is a loss Oklahoma City can’t dwell on for long. The Thunder return home to face the Chicago Bulls next, closing out a five-game road trip and looking to quickly regain momentum. With the San Antonio Spurs right on their heels for the top seed, every game carries significant weight from here on out.
