Witness OKC's historic climb: clinching the #1 seed and joining elite company with unprecedented season achievements.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have officially clinched the #1 overall seed in the NBA and will have homecourt advantage throughout the playoffs.

OKC's 128-110 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night secured the best record in the league. Along with that accomplishment came a plethora of historical feats that put this Thunder team in rare NBA air.

Let us count the ways.

The Thunder have now notched the #1 seed in the Western Conference in three consecutive seasons. OKC joins a short list of teams to threepeat atop their conference. The entire list now comprises of the 1980's Los Angeles Lakers, the 1980's Boston Celtics, the 1990's Chicago Bulls, the 2000's Los Angeles Lakers, the 2010's Golden State Warriors and the 2020's Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Thunder have now won at least 64 games in back to back seasons. That's only been done by arguably the two greatest teams in hoops history. The entire list now comprises of the 1990's Chicago Bulls, the 2010's Golden State Warriors and the 2020's Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Thunder went wire to wire as the #1 seed in the Western Conference. OKC jumped out to an 8-0 record before their first loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. Oklahoma City then ripped off 16 straight wins to buff that record up to a hefty 24-1. Though the San Antonio Spurs did make the Thunder sweat until the end with their own long winning streaks, OKC never gave up the crown. They became only the seventh team since the NBA merger to pull off the wire to wire best conference record. The entire list now comprises of the 1997 Chicago Bulls, 2001 Philadelphia 76ers, 2006 Detroit Pistons, 2008 Boston Celtics, 2009 Los Angeles Lakers, 2016 Golden State Warriors and 2026 Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Thunder have now won at least 30 road games in back to back seasons. Sorry if you're about to feel a little deja vu here. But that consecutive road record has only been done by two other teams in NBA history. The entire list comprises of the... stop me if you've heard these names before... 1990's Chicago Bulls, the 2010's Golden State Warriors and the 2020's Oklahoma City Thunder.

Long story short, this year's Thunder squad may not match last season's total wins record. Nobody knows if they will achieve the postseason success that championship squad of a year ago was able to attain. But despite a multitude of injuries up and down the roster all season long, the 2025-2026 OKC Thunder continue to see their name alongside some of the greatest teams to ever play the game.

And that bodes well for OKC's back to back title aspirations with just over a week to go before the NBA playoffs.
