A fan's improbable halfcourt heave banked $20,000 and landed him a shoutout from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, making it a night of unforgettable wins.
The Oklahoma City Thunder beat an Eastern Conference contender on Sunday night when they downed the New York Knicks by a final score of 111-100. In a game filled with highlights from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Brunson, Jalen Williams, Karl-Anthony Towns and Chet Holmgren, it was an unknown sharpshooter who supplied the highlight of the night.
Logan Isbell, a 22 year old Thunder fan, won a MidFirst Bank free throw contest and then took his place at the OKC logo to attempt a $20,000 shot. He was asked by the Thunder on-court emcee Malcolm what he would buy first if he made the halfcourt attempt.
"The new Echo Shai's," Isbell said.
Isbell took one step. He didn't get a running start like most fans who attempt the halfcourt shot. Perfect form. Great release.
Nothing but net.
The uproarious ovation Isbell got from the Loud City crowd was rivaled only by Gilgeous-Alexander's game-icing 3 point shot in clutch time. Rumble got hyped. Malcolm dabbed Isbell up. Isbell was quickly presented with one of those larger than life cardboard checks for $20,000 from MidFirst Bank.
The buzz continued online. The official NBA and OKC Thunder accounts posted the moneymaking shot on all of their social media accounts. The shot can now be seen on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Reddit, TikTok and who knows, maybe even MySpace and Xanga at this point.
Probably most importantly to Isbell, word of Isbell's wish for the new Converse Shai 001 colorway that Gilgeous-Alexander debuted that night made its way to the reigning MVP in the postgame press conference.
"Oh yeah, that's pretty cool. I'll try to figure out who he is and get him a pair," Gilgeous-Alexander said. "They don't cost $10,000 so he doesn't have to worry about that."
Make that two big wins for Isbell on the night. Overlooking the fact that the Thunder superstar accidentally shortchanged him $10,000, it sounds like he gets to keep all his prize money as well as being personally gifted a pair of one of the hottest current kicks.
An Oklahoma City resident, Isbell says he does have other plans for the money besides some new hoops sneakers. The halfcourt shot winner revealed that he is a newlywed and plans to use the money toward he and his wife's new apartment.
Isbell became the 25th fan to make the MidFirst Bank halfcourt shot since the contest started in 2008. It was the first winning shot of the 2025-26 season.
