Chet Holmgren is an NBA All-Star.
After weeks of social media, podcast and television debates and speculation, the Oklahoma City Thunder big man was announced as a Western Conference reserve on Sunday night. It is the 23 year old's first All-Star honor.
The other six West reserves selected alongside Holmgren were Anthony Edwards, Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, Jamal Murray, Deni Avdija and LeBron James.
Holmgren becomes the seventh different Thunder player to be named an NBA All-Star, which is tied for the fourth most in the NBA since 2009-2010. In total, Oklahoma City has had 24 All-Star appearances in 18 seasons. The Thunder have had at least one All-Star in all but three seasons. Perhaps even more impressive, OKC has boasted two All-Stars in exactly half their seasons of existence.
Russell Westbrook leads the Thunder with eight All-Star selections. Kevin Durant was a seven time All-Star in OKC, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander a four time All-Star, Paul George a two time All-Star and Chris Paul, Jalen Williams and now Holmgren all made one All-Star appearance with the Thunder.
Oklahoma City, Denver and the Los Angeles Lakers are the only three Western Conference teams to feature multiple 2026 All-Star selections.
Holmgren is averaging career-highs of 17.8 points and 8.6 rebounds while adding over 2 blocks (third in the league) per game. He joins Giannis Antetokounmpo and Nikola Jokić as the only players averaging at least 17.0 points and 8.0 rebounds while shooting 55% from the field and 37% from three-point range per game this season.
Holmgren has been OKC's anchor in the middle and led the Thunder to the best defensive rating in the NBA. He is holding opponents to just 44.2% on two-point shot attempts, which is tops in the league. The third year player was named the Western Conference Defensive Player of the Month for games played in December.
