From high-stakes team options on Lu Dort and Kenrich Williams to Cason Wallace’s extension eligibility, navigate the critical milestones shaping Oklahoma City’s championship-caliber roster this summer.
The Thunder have already been extremely active this offseason. During the 2026 NBA Draft, they traded a pair of future second-round picks to move up one spot to select Bennett Stirtz 16th overall and later dropped from 37th overall to 41st overall for cash considerations.
Meanwhile, Oklahoma City slashed its monstrous 2027 luxury tax bill by trading Aaron Wiggins and Isaiah Joe for a combined four future second-round picks. It also made a handshake agreement to decline Isaiah Hartenstein’s $28.5 million team option and sign him to a three-year, $75 million contract.
But there is still work to be done. Here are the key offseason dates and deadlines for the Thunder.
June 29: The Thunder have until 4 p.m. Central to accept or decline team options for Kenrich Williams and Luguentz Dort. Williams’ option will likely be declined since his impact does not justify a $7.1 million salary for a second apron team like Oklahoma City. However, look for Presti to offer Williams a new contract at a lower 2027 cap hit. Dort is the more interesting decision. Will Presti decline his option to either let him walk in free agency or sign him to a new deal? Or will Presti accept his option and then trade him?
Oklahoma City also has until 10:59 p.m. Central to submit qualifying offers to Branden Carlson and Brooks Barnhizer. It’s a binding offer that would bring one or both of them back on a two-way contract for one season assuming another team does not offer them a standard contract this offseason. The Thunder would have the right to match the standard contract offer, but they do not possess the roster space (or interest) to go this route. If Presti does not submit qualifying offers to Carlson and Barnhizer, then they immediately become unrestricted free agents.
June 30: Once the clock strikes 5 p.m. Central, teams are legally allowed to negotiate contracts with upcoming free agents. It’s worth noting that contracts cannot be officially inked until July 6. The Thunder will not be star-hunting in free agency, but they could sign a veteran to a minimum contract if they have an open roster spot.
July 1: Cason Wallace becomes eligible to sign a rookie extension on July 1 and has until the day before the 2026-27 regular season starts to reach an agreement with Oklahoma City. If Wallace and the Thunder fail to come to terms (which is highly unlikely), then Wallace becomes a restricted free agent in the 2027 offseason.
Aday Mara and Bennett Stirtz also become eligible to sign their rookie scale contracts on July 1. They cannot suit up for a Summer League contest without having already inked their contracts.
July 9: NBA Summer League begins and runs through July 19.
