There are plenty of people who hate on the Oklahoma City Thunder due to the success they've had. Don't let the silly discourse keep you from enjoying and supporting your team.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are just weeks away from tipping off their season, and much like previous seasons, the negativity from NBA fans towards the Thunder has returned. This is not something that will catch the average Thunder fan off guard, as OKC has been the center of complaints since they burst onto the championship scene during the 2024-2025 season.

The best teams in the NBA have always been criticized: the Miami Heat in the early 2010s, then the Golden State Warriors after them. While the Thunder have only won a single championship, there’s no doubt they are viewed around the league as a constant threat and potential dynasty. Pair that with the physicality the Thunder play with on defense, the generational level of play they get from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander every night, and you’ve got a narrative to complain about if you so choose.

Great teams often aren’t fully appreciated until after their window is closed, so it’s no surprise to see the Thunder at the center of drama on social media. Fans, however, shouldn't let negativity ruin their enjoyment of the incredible product the Thunder put on the court every single night.

It’s easy in today’s world to want validation from everyone you come across when it comes to enjoyment of something. For many, things are only enjoyable when the thing you’re enjoying isn’t controversial, but that simply does not happen in sports regardless of who you cheer for.

It’s simply not worth getting caught up in silly, online discourse if it robs you of the joy you get from watching this generational organization and team do what they do.  If you’re one of the many that loves argument and debate about sports, by all means, engage and defend your team and their players!

If that’s not you, know that this iteration of the Thunder will not be on top forever, and once they aren’t, they will be appreciated by the general public like OKC appreciates them now. Cheer, yell, and enjoy what will likely be another special season from OKC. Don’t let anyone’s opinions dampen the joy you have in this time, because many fanbases will never get to experience this level of success and would deal with any negativity you could dream up if it meant experiencing the success Thunder fans see.

Fans who hate on and complain about the Thunder aren’t doing it because the Thunder are some new evil the sport has never seen before. They complain because the Thunder are great. Enjoy the greatness.
