Anthony Edwards Responds To Criticism That He Doesn't Play For A Tie cover image

Anthony Edwards responded to negative criticism that he doesn't play for the tie by sending everyone home happy.

Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves topped the Oklahoma City Thunder on the Friday night with a 112-107 victory in Minnesota.

Edwards, who was returning from a three game absence due to injury, sent the fans home happy with a clutch three over Cason Wallace in the final minute to put the Wolves up 108-107 in the final minute.

After the game, Edwards was asked about his decision to go for the win.

"I receive a lot of negative criticism because I never go for the tie. I heard Gilbert Arenas not too long ago say, 'I'm trying to go home.' So, I'm going for the game, every time.

Edwards finished the game with 26 points and 12 rebounds to go along with three assists, three steals, and two blocks.

Clutch Final Minute

The Timberwolves have struggled in crunch time throughout the season, but they had things figured out against the Thunder.

Along with Edwards' three-pointer that turned out to be the game winner, the Wolves held OKC scoreless in the final minute. Down three with the ball, the Thunder couldn't get a shot off as Edwards tightened up on Gilgeous-Alexander, forcing him and Jalen Williams to turn the ball over.

Offensive Rebounding A Big Difference

The Timberwolves collected 18 offensive rebounds leading to 29 second chance points.

There was no bigger offensive rebound than the one in the final minute where Rudy Gobert back tapped a missed free throw by Julius Randle, earning the Wolves an extra possesion down two.

That extra possesion was Edwards' clutch three.

Gobert finished with 14 total rebounds with six coming on the offensive glass. Randle contributed five offensive rebounds.

Chris Finch Ejected

Wolves head coach Chris Finch has often spoken about the physicality of the Thunder defense and the lack of calls he feels goes against them.

It didn't take him long to be upset with a couple of non-calls that he thought should have been fouls, yelling at the referees and having to be restrained from going after them further.

Finch was ejected halfway through the first quarter.

The Thunder were called for plenty of fouls in the game with 30 going against them. The Wolves shot 47 free throws compared to 30 for the Thunder.

Unsung Hero

Bones Hyland was the unsung hero for the Wolves, scoring 13 points in 16 minutes, including 4-6 shooting from three. He also chipped in with two steals and a block.

Hyland's energy off the bench helped swing the game in favor of the Wolves.

Minnesota also got contributions from Naz Reid, who had 15 points, three steals, and two blocks. Donte DiVincenzo also had 15 points, shooting 4-10 from three. Julius Randle struggled from the field, but went 12-18 from the line.
