Drafted 4th overall in the 2007 NBA Draft, Mike Conley will go down as one of the most underrated point guards of his era. Conley was a steady figure for the Memphis Grizzlies for over a decade, providing value not only as a lead guard but as a strong defender as well. Despite being worthy of an All-Star nod, he wouldn't get one till he joined the Utah Jazz.

Flash forward to today, Conley is now 38 years old and likely approaching the end of his NBA career. He's far from the player he used to be in Memphis and even Utah, but with the Minnesota Timberwolves struggling as of late, head coach Chris Finch recognized that Conley can be that steady hand this team needs.

Chris Finch Talks To Importance Of Conley

"Yeah, it's just a shame on me for not playing him out there more in all these situations," Finch said, speaking after the team's 119-115 win over the Boston Celtics. "That's the value of him. He can make big shots, make smart plays, understand what it takes to close out a game with possessions and defensive execution, and everything."

It was a rough look for the Timberwolves heading into Saturday's contest against the Celtics. They were riding a three-game losing streak and needed to see a win before the situation got worse in Minnesota. With the game tied 110-110 late in the fourth quarter, Conley broke the tie with a massive three-pointer, as the Timberwolves never let the lead go after that.

As mentioned, Conley is far from the player he used to be, but he can be a reliable option for the Timberwolves and someone who can keep them composed in high-pressure situations. Looking back over their past three losses, the Timberwolves needed someone to keep them level-headed, and perhaps Finch could look to insert Conley more to help with that.

Game Recap

While Conley did help down the stretch for the Timberwolves in Saturday's matchup against the Celtics, it was yet another stellar performance from Anthony Edwards, who had 39 points on 5-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc to help the team improve to 11-8.

Over the past four games, Edwards has averaged 38.5 points per game, but was finally able to secure a victory for the Timberwolves. Edwards shouldn't have to put up these performances to win; both Julius Randle and Jaden McDaniels have struggled offensively as of late, so they'll need to step it up so Edwards can lighten his load.

Minnesota will play the second leg of its back-to-back on Sunday when they host the San Antonio Spurs, with tip-off set for 7:00 p.m.
