The Minnesota Timberwolves laid an egg against the Atlanta Hawks on New Year's Eve, losing 126-102 to a team that had lost seven straight coming into the game.

Anthony Edwards and the starters were subbed out with 7:52 remaining in the fourth quarter as the Wolves trailed 102-80.

A disappointed Edwards went to the bench, threw his towel in the air, and then walked off the court.

Speaking to the media after the game, Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch was asked about Edwards' actions.

"He was obviously frustrated with the performance. Rightfully so, but he needs to stay out on the floor and root for his team," said Finch.

At the time he was subbed out, Edwards had 30 points while the rest of the team combined for 50 points.

Getting On The Right Track

The Timberwolves have been more up than down during the season, but they've lost three of their last four games. Along with the loss to the Hawks, the Wolves dropped a game to the lowly Brooklyn Nets, 123-107.

This rough patch comes after a three-game win streak that included victories over the Oklahoma City Thunder and New York Knicks.

Asked about how the team navigates stretches like this, Finch told reporters, "We've been through stretches like this. Every team goes through it. They'll hang together."

The Wolves opened the season with three losses in their first five games, but they also have had winning streaks of four games and five games during the year.

Anthony Edwards' Recent Play

Edwards has done his best to carry his team to victory over this recent stretch, averaging 31 points and five rebounds in his last four games. He's shot 55% from the field and 35% from three.

Against the Denver Nuggets on Christmas Day, Edwards had 44 points in overtime despite the loss.

While Edwards has carried the scoring, he hasn't gotten much help from his teammates in that department in two of the four losses. Against the Nets and Hawks, no other player on the Timberwolves scored more than 20 points.

Against the Hawks, Julius Randle had 19 points, but no other rotation regular was in double digits. Johnny Juzang scored 10 points when the game was already over.

Four players not named Anthony Edwards were in double digits against the Nets, but only Jaden McDaniels, 16 points, had over 15.

Naz Reid had 33 points in a win against the Chicago Bulls, while Randle had 32 points and McDaniels had 21 points against the Nuggets.
