The idea of James heading to Minnesota is popular.
The Minnesota Timberwolves may be falling fast out of contention for LeBron James, but that doesn't mean that the potential paring of James of the Timberwolves wouldn't be some of the most exciting teams in the league if James was willing to take the leap.
Joining a team headlined by Anthony Edwards would already be an intriguing combination with James as the face of the NBA for so many years and Edwards emerging as one of the biggest stars of the next generation.
But adding LaMelo Ball to the move the way that Minnesota did this offseason takes the Timberwolves to a completely new level, giving the Timberwolves the playmaker they've desperately needed and pairing two of the most exciting and dynamic young guards in the league together.
A Fun Fit
In that scenario, James would stand out as the veteran with a major offensive load lifted off his shoulders and putting him in a position to guide the next generation of the NBA.
There is a real fit in Minnesota for James and if he is looking for "fun" in his final years like he reportedly is, then there aren't many teams that will be more exciting than the Timberwolves.
There's at least one former NBA star that agrees with that sentiment and that's DeMarcus Cousins, who made the case for James to head to the Twin Cities on a recent Summer League broadcast.
"I think Bron in Minnesota with Ant Man would be must watch TV. They added LaMelo Ball who's also another exciting player. You put those three characters together I think we in for some good ball and possibly a championship run," Cousins said (via Oh No He Didn't).
Does Minnesota Have a Chance?
During what seemed to be the first round of James' free agency, the Timberwolves were listed as a possible team, but in the weeks since reports have come out that puts the Timberwolves out of contention with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat and Philadelphia 76ers emerging as James' top three teams while the Golden State Warriors have been listed as a distant fourth and Minnesota is nowhere to be found.
That doesn't make their outlook for landing the longtime star look very good, but the points that Cousins made, the paring of three vibrant personalities in Ball, Edwards and James, would create one of the most fun to watch teams in the league and even if it looks like a long shot now, James could still surprise the league and choose the thrill potential of Minnesota.
