NBA general managers love Anthony Edwards.

The regular season is upon us as we’re just days away from the start of the 2026-27 season.

Expectations are high for the Minnesota Timberwolves as they revamped their roster to inject more offense and playmaking with the addition of LaMelo Ball.

The biggest beneficiary should be Anthony Edwards, who has already established himself as one of the best offensive players in the league, finishing third in scoring last season, without the help of a true secondary creator.

With Ball as his running mate in the backcourt, Edwards should have the offensive freedom and space that he’s never had before.

As such, general managers around the league are expecting a big year from the seventh-year guard out of Georgia.

General Manager Survey

The NBA published its annual GM survey, and general managers around the league praised Anthony Edwards, voting him as the best shooting guard in the league.

Edwards received 73% of the votes, up from the 70% of the votes he received last year.

There does seem to be some confusion on positions, as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander received 13% of the votes for best shooting guard, but won the vote for best point guard with 67% of the vote. Meanwhile, Luka Doncic received 10% of the vote for best shooting guard, 10% of the vote for best point guard, and won the vote for best small forward with 37%.

Edwards also finished second in the “most athletic” vote, getting 20% of the vote, trailing only Amen Thompson, who got 63% of the vote.

Finally, Edwards was third in the MVP vote with 7% behind Nikola Jokic (10%) and Victor Wembanyama (77%).

What Does This Mean?

It’s a positive for how Edwards is viewed around the league by team decision-makers. Any time your name is constantly in the conversation with MVPs like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nikola Jokic, champions like Jalen Brunson, and aliens like Victor Wembanyama, you are in elite company.

Even though his team didn’t have as much playoff success last season, Edwards has shown steady improvements each of his first six seasons as he’s established himself as one of the best scorers in the league.

The scary thing for opposing teams is that he just turned 25 and still has plenty of room to grow in terms of playmaking and off-ball movement. The addition of Ball should open those things up for him, and a scoring title is not far-fetched.
