The Minnesota Timberwolves scored a 117-108 victory over the Denver Nuggets on Sunday, putting them ahead of the Nuggets in the standings, firmly in fourth place.

It was the first victory in four tries for the Timberwolves against the Nuggets this season. They won't meet again unless it's in the playoffs.

The Timberwolves got contributions from everyone on the floor, but their bench was a key part of the game.

Naz Reid scored 11 points, Ayo Dosunmu has 9 points, and former Nugget Bones Hyland had 18 points.

Their 38 points combined were more than the entire Nuggets bench, which scored 29 points as a unit.

Bones Hyland Loves The Bench

After the game, Hyland was asked about the contributions from the bench and new addition, Dosunmu.

"I feel amazing. All three of our guys, it could be any of our nights, each night. We're so dynamic, we can all play off each other. The addition [of Ayo] is big for us," he said.

Dosunmu was acquired from the Chicago Bulls at the NBA trade deadline in exchange for Rob Dillingham, Leonard Miller, and four second-round picks.

In eight games with the Timberwolves, he is averaging 11 points, 2.8 assists, and shooting 50% from the field. His athleticism has been on display alongside Hyland.

"I look up and somebody is on the wing, and he's running. That's Ayo every time. Kick aheads are very important for our team. That's something I thrive in. He's a great addition for our team. We have a great bench," he said.

Hyland noted that if someone is running with him, he will look to reward them.

Timberwolves Bench

In his first full season with the Timberwolves, Hyland is averaging 7.2 points and shooting 39% from three on 3.4 attempts.

He joins Naz Reid as a key off the bench contributor. Reid won the Sixth Man of the Year award in 2023-24 and finished fifth last season.

Though the trio were great against the Nuggets, their numbers together through eight games haven't been impressive.

Hyland and Dosunmu have a -22.5 net rating when they are on the floor together. Those two, alongside Reid, are still at a -14.4 net rating.

Hyland and Reid have been a proven strong duo with a +8.1 net rating in 500 minutes.

Dosunmu has been the weak link between the three, but that's to be expected given that he's new to the team. The game against the Nuggets could be a step in the right direction, though only time will tell.
