LeBron James could be an ideal fit for the Timberwolves, according to head coach Finch.

The Minnesota Timberwolves continue to be mentioned as one of the teams in the mix for LeBron James, and head coach Chris Finch isn't shying away from the possibility.

While attending the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, Finch discussed the growing speculation during Bleacher Report's livestream and explained why he believes the four-time NBA champion would fit seamlessly with Minnesota's roster.

Following James' departure from the Los Angeles Lakers, several contenders have reportedly emerged as potential landing spots. According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the Timberwolves are among the teams still pursuing the NBA legend, joining the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers and Golden State Warriors.

Although nothing is imminent, Finch made it clear that Minnesota would welcome James with open arms.

Finch Sees an Ideal Basketball Fit

The Timberwolves enter the offseason with a vacancy at power forward after moving on from Naz Reid and Julius Randle, leaving room for a veteran who can contribute immediately.

"It would be the fit, for sure," Finch said during the livestream. "We have a hole that he would easily fit into. The players alongside of him have done a lot of winning, are guys that could use his leadership as well. His knowledge, his insight, his championship expertise."

Finch also emphasized the environment within the organization, saying he believes Minnesota offers exactly what James is searching for at this stage of his career.

"I think it would be a fun group to play with. I know he's looking for happiness right now. I think the happiness quotient in Minnesota is extremely high," Finch said.

It's easy to understand why Finch feels that way. Minnesota already features Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball, Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert, allowing James to join one of the Western Conference's deepest rosters. His close relationship with Edwards has only fueled speculation that the two could eventually become teammates.

LeBron Could Elevate Minnesota's Championship Hopes

Even at 41 years old, James continues to perform at an elite level. During the 2025-26 season, he averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists while shooting 51.5% from the field in 60 games. He also earned his 22nd All-Star selection, adding another milestone to one of the greatest careers in NBA history.

Beyond the numbers, James brings invaluable postseason experience. A four-time NBA champion and four-time Finals MVP, he has consistently shown the ability to elevate teammates and thrive in high-pressure situations.

For a Timberwolves team that has championship aspirations, adding James could provide the leadership and playoff experience needed to take the next step. His playmaking would ease the burden on Edwards, while his versatility would allow Finch to deploy multiple lineups on both ends of the floor.

Whether Minnesota ultimately lands James remains uncertain, especially with several contenders still in the running. But if Finch gets his wish, the Timberwolves could quickly emerge as one of the favorites to compete for the NBA title during the 2026-27 season.
