The Minnesota Timberwolves pulled off a narrow 117-110 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday despite trailing Memphis heavily early on in the first half, but a resurgent third quarter gave the Timberwolves the boost they needed, and a familiar face provided that boost.

The Timberwolves outscored the Grizzlies by 12 points in the third quarter to overcome a five point deficit at the half and that was all the distance Minnesota needed after the two teams matched scores at 28 points in the fourth quarter.

Anthony Edwards took over the game yet again for the Timberwolves with a 41 points performance, but it was the contributions that his teammate Julius Randle made that may have have pushed the pace just enough for the Timberwolves to pull out a win.

Randle Making A Difference

“Another really good all around game. He [Randle] did an outstanding job playing with force tonight. I thought offensively in that third quarter he was really instrumental to us finding a rhythm. It was really good offensively and defensively for the most part," Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch said to the media.

Randle finished the game with 23 points, second on the team behind Edwards, on 7-15 shooting. He was also an instrumental playmaking piece for the Timberwolves with 11 rebounds and four assists.

The pace that Randle brings to the floor has been instrumental in the Timberwolves' success this season and he's proud over and over again that his versatility and his own scoring power has been too much for opposing defenses to handle at times, especially when he's working off his counterpart Edwards.

The Edwards and Randle Connection

The two of them form an overwhelming one too punch as Edwards focuses on an explosive onslaught of scoring while Randle is more multifaceted in what he's capable of.

The way that he manages both the offense and defense of the Timberwolves is crucial for team team as often their formations move through him and rely on his direction.

Finding a rhythm is important for any team, especially coming down the stretch of a game and coming from behind on the scoreboard. Randle's versatility and experience shines in these moments, as they did on Tuesday, as he's able to regulate his team, break down what the opposition is doing and work toward gaining some momentum.

The addition of Randle to the Timberwolves roster last season has fully manifested now. Edwards may be the main firepower that the Timberwolves have to work with, but Randle is the guidance system that brings the whole team into focus.
