Anthony Edwards made history on Thursday night when he became the third-youngest player in NBA history to score 10,000 points.

Thursday was a historic night in Minnesota.

The Minnesota Timberwolves came away with a 131-22 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers for their fourth-straight win, but it was the performance of Anthony Edwards that stole the show.

Edwards 25 points, seven rebounds and nine assists in the win and in the process he scored his 10,000th career point, becoming the third-youngest player in NBA history to hit the milestone at 24 years and 156 days old. Only LeBron James and Kevin Durant have accomplished the feat at younger age.

Edwards was the seventh-fastest player in NBA history to cross the 10,000 point threshold, doing so in just 412 games.

Chris Finch Reacts

"The scoring comes natural to him in a lot of ways," Minnesota head coach Chris Finch said of Edwards. "I think back to the first 40-point  game he had in his rookie year down in Phoenix, at that point in time he knew there was something inside him where he could get to that."

For Finch, who has been the head coach of the Timberwolves every season of Edwards' career but his rookie season, it's not just the young superstar's scoring abilities that he finds impressive, but the way he's been able to run the floor as the team's offensive leader and the decision-making and scoring instincts that Edwards has developed.

"What I’m most pleased of is he’s playing a great floor game. He’s just driving it when the drive is there, getting off of it in the crowd, trusting his teammates, executing the offense, running plays, making the next pass and moving well off the ball too," Finch said.

Edwards' Legacy in Minnesota

Edwards has been a star since the moment he stepped on to an NBA court. He came second in Rookie of the Year voting in the 2020-21 season and he's been selected as an All-Star in three of his five full seasons.

He's set himself apart as not only the franchise player for the Timberwolves, but he's already on track to be one of the greatest Timberwolves ever. He's one of just three players to score their first 10,000 points entirely in a Minnesota uniform, joining Kevin Garnett and Karl-Anthony Towns and Edwards is the youngest of those three players to do so.

Despite the milestone and the history behind it, Edwards isn't satisfied with just 10,000 points. He knows he has a long career as a premier scorer ahead of him and plans to achieve even more history before it's done.

"To be honest, it’s cool, but I know I got a lot more to go, so it’s really nothing," Edwards said.
