Donte DiVincenzo hopes to be an extra voice in the Timberwolves locker room this season.

During the 2026 playoffs, the Minnesota Timberwolves suffered a major loss as guard Donte DiVincenzo tore his Achilles, keeping him out for an extended period of time. He sustained the injury in April and will not be ready to start the season later this month.

DiVincenzo has been with Minnesota for the last two seasons and has seen success with the organization. He's developed continuity with his teammates, including star player Anthony Edwards, and now that he's out for an extended period of time, he's looking to be another vocal piece on the roster.

"Be an ear for these guys. I think that's the biggest thing," DiVincenzo said.

"A lot of new pieces, but I played with Trey Lyles, I played with Kuminga. So I have that familiarity. And then having the trust that I believe that Ant has in me to communicate with me and kind of be the bridge between the coaching staff and the players."

A lot of the talk about Minnesota this offseason has been about the energy they bring off the court. Since they added guard LaMelo Ball from the Charlotte Hornets, he has gotten a lot of praise for his upbeat attitude and his influence on the rest of the roster.

If this team can stay connected with all the new pieces they added to the roster, they have the capability to go far.

While the expectations are high for the Timberwolves ahead of next season, the potential return of Donte DiVincenzo is being overlooked by many, and he could be a big part of a deep playoff run for this team.

Last season, DiVincenzo averaged 12.2 points per game, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.8 assists. He is known to be a reliable two-way guard, and he's built a strong connection with Anthony Edwards, making him more valuable to the franchise.

If DiVincenzo can come back in time for the postseason, this will make the Timberwolves a much deeper roster. They already have players who can perform well on both ends of the ball, like Ayo Dosunmu, and getting back DiVincenzo makes things much harder for opposing teams.

DiVincenzo fits the identity of this team very well. Under head coach Chris Finch, Minnesota has been known as a team that plays physically and is versatile on both ends of the floor.  It will be interesting to see how the team adapts to DiVincenzo being a locker room leader and what it may look like if he comes back.
