Donte DiVincenzo has been exactly what the Minnesota Timberwolves need, especially coming down the stretch this season.

A gritty player who can affect the game in a multitude of ways on the court, he personifies the term "role player" in the best possible way. An offensive contributor in his own right, DiVincenzo is multifaceted in his talents and has a willingness to do whatever he can to help the Timberwolves win.

That grittiness was on full display in the Timberwolves' dogfight of a win against the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday, earning the praise of head coach Chris Finch. He doesn't shy away from physicality and changes movement on the court that best serves the other major game changers on the court.

A Team Player

DiVincenzo has brought his unselfish mindset to five different NBA teams in his career, with Minnesota being his latest destination. With talents like Anthony Edwards, Rudy Gobert and Julius Randle around him, DiVincenzo has shown a huge willingness to be the set-up man so that that the stars around him can shine.

"That's exactly my mindset.. every team I've been on," DiVincenzo said (via Timberwolves). "Every night's not going to be getting 15 shots up. Sometimes it's three, four shots, sometimes it's 15. But just to be aggressive and get downhill and get other guys involved, get our main guys easy looks and get them in the flow."

How DiVincenzo Changes Minnesota

In Thursday's win, DiVincenzo had 18 points on 6-13 shooting along with three rebounds, four assists and two steals while playing lockdown defense in a highly physical match. Without his efforts, what was already a tough game for Minnesota could have swung the other way and ended in a loss.

His presence on the team brings a completeness that especially lets Edwards thrive. With the hard defense be brings and his shotmaking threats, DiVincenzo has the ability to set up lanes for Edwards and draw just enough defensive attention for Edwards to have the freedom to explode on the court.

A team needs a healthy balance of star players and role layers performing at their best and that's exactly what DiVincenzo does for the Timberwolves. He makes them a more diverse team skill-wise and brings diversity to the level of threats they can produce.

He may not always be the marquis player that takes over a game, but he consistently does the little things that have made the Timberwolves so successful throughout the season and continue to succeed as the season comes to a close.
