The Timberwolves pulled off the upset in game one, winning 104-102. The game was closely contested throughout, with neither team holding a double-digit lead. There were 19 lead changes and 17 ties in the four quarters. The Spurs took a three point lead into the fourth.
In the end, the Timberwolves took control in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Spurs, 35-30 and surviving a last second three-point attempt from Julian Champagnie that just fell short.
The Timberwolves lead the series 1-0. Game two begins at 9:30 PM ET at the Frost Back Center in San Antonio.
Minnesota Timberwolves Injury Report
Anthony Edwards is QUESTIONABLE with a left knee bone bruise. Edwards returned much earlier than expected from the injury that he suffered in game four of round one against the Denver Nuggets. Edwards came off the bench in game one, playing 25 minutes and finishing with 18 points, 11 of which came in the fourth quarter.
If he plays in game two, it is unknown if he will start or come off the bench.
Ayo Dosunmu is AVAILABLE with right calf injury maintenance. Dosunmu hasn't played since game five of the first round, missing the last two games. He averaged 21.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and four assists in five games against the Nuggets.
Donte DiVincenzo is OUT after undergoing right Achilles tendon surgery. DiVincenzo suffered the injury just two minutes into game four against Denver.
Randle led all scorers with 21 points. McDaniels and Shannon Jr had 16 points each while Conley had 12 points, hitting four of seven threes. Gobert had seven points and ten rebounds.
Edwards, Naz Reid, Bones Hyland, and Jaylen Clark all played off the bench with Edwards and Reid receiving the bulk of the minutes.
San Antonio Spurs Injury Report
Carter Bryant is QUESTIONABLE with a right foot sprain. He missed game one of the series.
The Spurs started Devin Vassell, Julian Champagnie, Victor Wembanyama, De'Aaron Fox, and Stephon Castle in game one. Wemby had a triple double with 11 points, 15 rebounds, and 12 blocks, but shot just 5-17 from the field and 0-8 from three. Fox had just ten points on 5-14 from the field and 0-4 from three.
Dylan Harper led all Spurs scorers, finishing with 18 points in 29 minutes off the bench. Keldon Johnson, Luke Kornet, and Harrison Barnes all played minutes as reserves.
