LeBron James and Anthony Edwards are two of the biggest stars in today's NBA, with James in the tail end of his career and Edwards yet to reach his prime. Regardless, the two are among the most polarizing players in the league, as they put their skills on display during the 2026 All-Star Game.
With James in his 22nd appearance and Edwards in his fourth appearance, it was the Minnesota Timberwolves star who shone the brightest, earning All-Star MVP honors for his performance across three contests. James has won his fair share in his career, but the new generation, with Edwards as a face, is taking over.
After Edwards took home his All-Star Game MVP honors, James was asked about Edwards, sharing high praise for the bond he has with the young star.
"I love Antman. Everything about him. On the court, off the court. Happy for him, first of many All-Star MVPs for him. I love Ant. He got a fan in me and a friend in me for life," James said.
Edwards might be better than James is now, but the Los Angeles Lakers legend still has his number. They've faced off 12 times in the regular season, with LeBron holding the edge 8-4. However, they did go head-to-head in the 2025 postseason, with Edwards and the Timberwolves winning in five games.
It's unclear if the two connected before, but they played together for the first time during the 2024 Paris Olympics, with Edwards being that youthful boost to a veteran team led by Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, and LeBron James.
All three of those players will likely sit out the 2028 Olympics, meaning it will be Edwards leading the pack with the next generation of USA Olympians.
Even though Edwards and LeBron are direct competitors, playing in the Western Conference, competing for seeding, and so forth, there's a mutual respect between the two for what they've accomplished on the court.
Edwards and James' teams have already matched up against each other twice this season, but LeBron wasn't healthy in either of those contests. They will play one more time this season on March 10th at the Crypto.com Arena, a game in which both players should play this time around.
The end of the season is too far away to determine whether or not these two teams match up in postseason, but that could very well happen for the second year in a row.
