The Minnesota Timberwolves have issued an update on the status of Anthony Edwards.

The Minnesota Timberwolves managed to advance past the first round of the NBA playoffs, defeating the favored Denver Nuggets in six games. 

The Timberwolves did so despite missing their starting backcourt for two and a half games. 

Two minutes into game four, Donte DiVincenzo went down with a torn Achilles, ruling him out for the foreseeable future. 

With roughly two minutes left in the first half, Minnesota received more bad news as Anthony Edwards left the game with a knee injury. Edwards challenged Cameron Johnson at the rim of on a drive, and when he came down, his knee buckled in. 

Edwards was helped off the floor and did not return in the series. It was originally reported that he would miss multiple weeks with a left knee bone bruise and hyperextension.

Good News For Edwards

On the evening of May 3, Timberwolves fans got good news regarding their superstar. 

Edwards is officially listed as questionable for game one against the San Antonio Spurs in the second round. 

The Timberwolves put out an official statement on his status, saying that he has been cleared for on-court basketball activities. 

It was reported on Sunday afternoon that Edwards would miss games one and two of the series, but there was optimism in him returning in game three or four. The news of him being questionable for game one presents more optimism that he will return sooner than expected. 

Anthony Edwards Injury And Expectations

Edwards was largely healthy for the majority of the season, but dealth with a knee injury in the middle of March that caused him to miss 11 of the last 13 games. Minnesota did rest their starters down the stretch once they were locked into the three seed, including the season finale agaisnt the New Orleans Pelicans. 

Edwards played 27 minutes in the 81st game of the season against Houston. 

Overall, Edwards played 61 games in the regular season, averaging 28.8 points, five rebounds, and 3.7 assists. 

Thus far in the playoffs, he's averaging 18 points, 6.8 rebounds, and three assists, but those numbers include just one half of basketball in game four. 

He was brilliant against the Spurs during the regular season, averaging 36 points in three games against them during the regular season. He shot 58% from the field and 51% from three, and had a season high 55 points against them. 

Minnesota went 2-1 against the Spurs with Edwards in the lineup during the regular season.
