The Minnesota Timberwolves could be dipping their hands into the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes

It doesn't come as a surprise, but ESPN's Shams Charania kicked off Wednesday morning by reporting that Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is ready for a new home ahead of the February 5th NBA trade deadline. The team is also open to a move in the offseason, but it's now known the two sides will split soon.

Why this isn't a surprise is due to the state of the team, as the Bucks sit several games back of the 10th seed in the Eastern Conference, and don't have much to work with. Having money tied up for several seasons in paying off Damian Lillard's contract and a lack of high-upside young players, the future in Milwaukee is far from bright.

Minnesota Timberwolves Expected To Inquire

With Giannis hitting the trade block, teams from across the league are expected to inquire about trying to land the two-time MVP on their roster, a player who can swing a team to top contender status. While the New York Knicks remain one of the most popular potential destinations, the Minnesota Timberwolves might make a run for him.

According to Timberwolves insider Jon Krawczynski, he expects the Timberwolves and the President of Basketball Operations, Tim Connelly, to see what they can put together in terms of an offer.

"Anytime a player like Giannis Antetokounmpo is available, you have to put Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly’s name in the running for a trade. Connelly has been one of the most aggressive front office leaders since he took the job in Minnesota," Krawczynski wrote.

He went on to mention the deals for Rudy Gobert, Julius Randle, and Mike Conley in the past, but acquiring Giannis would be the biggest one to this point.

"Does he have the ammunition to get a deal done? We will see, but I definitely expect him to be inquiring," he added.

What Would A Deal Look Like?

While Giannis may prefer to be moved before the February 5th trade deadline, moving someone of his caliber can sometimes take time and can be much easier during the offseason. However, a trade for Giannis before the deadline could look as follows:

Minnesota receives: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Thanasis Antetokounmpo, and Gary Harris

Milwaukee receives: Julius Randle, Jaden McDaniels, Rob Dillingham + multiple pick swaps

This deal would match the salaries, give the Bucks two young players in McDaniels and Dillingham, and give them first-round pick swaps to work with. Ideally, this would work better for the Bucks if there were a third team involved that could take on Randle and send more draft capital to the Timberwolves, something like the following:

Minnesota receives: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Thanasis Antetokounmpo, and Gary Harris

Milwaukee receives: Terry Rozier, Jaden McDaniels, Rob Dillingham, multiple pick swaps via MIN, and two lightly protected 1st via MIA

Miami receives: Julius Randle

The deadline is just a week away, so who knows what could happen between now and then.
