Minnesota Timberwolves star reserve Naz Reid reveals the key to getting out of their current losing slump

The Minnesota Timberwolves looked like one of the best teams in the NBA to begin the 2026 calendar year, going 6-1 through their first seven games, featuring wins over the Cleveland Cavaliers and San Antonio Spurs. However, it was a short-lived run, as the Timberwolves have since dropped their last four contests.

A main reason for their recent struggles has been their lack of presence on the defensive end, allowing just around 120 points per game over their last four games. It was clear the team would be set back after Nickeil Alexander-Walker left and Mike Conley regressed, but this team continues to struggle to find consistency.

Naz Reid Addresses Team's Recent Struggles

On Thursday, the Timberwolves suffered their fourth-straight loss to the Chicago Bulls, as Anthony Edwards shot 9-of-25 from the field while seven Bulls players ended the night scoring in double-figures.

After the game, star reserve Naz Reid was asked about what it's going to take to get the team out of their current position.

"Staying with it. It's not always going to be pretty. I've said that plenty of times. It's not always going to be perfect. Nobody's perfect, especially, you know, a team like us. I mean, you expect a lot out of us, but you know, we're not perfect. Sometimes it gets ugly before it gets better, just got to stick with it," Reid said.

Expanding on what was mentioned earlier, this season has been a roller coaster for the Timberwolves. While they've had several winning streaks go for four or more games, they've also had two instances of losing streaks being three or more games as well.

There's no doubt this roster is talented, but being able to uphold a standard of consistency continues to hold them back from climbing the standings and reaching that top tier of contenders.

"This is no time to let up or feel sorry for ourselves, this team's playing every day," he added.

What's Next For Minnesota?

Following the postponement of Saturday's contest against the Golden State Warriors in Minnesota, the game has been pushed to Sunday, setting up a home-home back-to-back against the Warriors. Even though Golden State is missing Jimmy Butler now, that doesn't mean the Timberwolves can overlook them.

Looking at the situation of both rosters, Minnesota should be able to take care of business in both games against the Warriors, barring an explosive performance from Steph Curry.

After the two contests against Golden State, they'll round out the month at Dallas, home versus Oklahoma City, and on the road at Memphis.
